An economy run of 12.000 km!

How to Save petrol and still travel far? Matthieu Cuppens found these photos and some newspaper clippings from 1951 telling the story of a Dutch chap who used his motorised Pluvier bicycle to travel Europe and North Africa! Over a total travelled distance of 12,000 km his 'CycleMaster'  gobbled away a mere 200 litres of two-stroke fuel. So his average consumption was one litre in 60 kilometres! Our guess, that he switched off his machine and used the Dutch legs for at least half the distance. Still a great achievement.

On another note. We never participated in a real old fashioned economy run. Anybody out there who can produce a personal memory report with one or two photos from back then? If apt for use on this homepage you earn yourselves a PostWarClassic T-shirt!
