How many factory built production cars are there with a length spanning more than 6 metres? Last week's ultra-rare Imperial limousine? There cannot be too many more. This 1963 Cadillac 75-series Fleetwood is one of them. Although it’s a not very common limousine version (680 built in ’63), with an extra 51.6 centimeters in between the front- and rear wheels, it remains a production car, built in-house in Michigan. Total length is a whopping 618 centimeters. Why on earth would you drive that?
1. Because it looks and drives superb. For the ’63 model year Cadillac’s lines became simpler, squarer and more massive. These lines suited the long wheel base model best. Things also didn’t get more luxurious in the 1960s as in this car.
2. Because it fits the whole family, and more. With seating for 9 passengers you’ll always have space for that extra family member. And they won’t be cramped inside, mind you. Our house is less luxurious inside.
3. Because everyone will think you’ll be a president. Or king. The ebony black paint, separation window and black leather interior add to the status. If you like to turn heads wherever you go, this is your car.
4. Because now you’ll still be able to drive this 340bhp V8 powered road yacht as long as it takes. It’s a machine built in what may well be the most prosperous of the automobile’s years. Who knows what will come?
5. Because there was no way you could afford it at the time at a price of just under 10,000 dollars: more than 4 times that of a Ford Fairlane. Concours cars are being valued at prices that are not too much apart from the Fairlane today.
Tempted? We’ve got one for sale right here right now.
