50 Years after The Graduate

It’s December and on our side of the world the summer sun seems further away than ever. But we have a reason to show today’s Friday Lady here. It's the car. It was 50 years ago today that the delightful red Alfa Spider Duetto just like the one seen here was driven right into the hearts of a huge audience. It was the Duetto that could be seen in The Graduate, the 1967 film hit that premiered.

If you haven’t seen this movie about a most unlikely romance, we’d want to recommend it here, even if it’s 5 decades ago. The Spider was only launched a year earlier, and must have made a breakthrough in the US thanks to the movie. Oh – the same went for that lovely Katherine Ross. And Dustin Hoffman.

Eighteen years after the film Alfa-Romeo still found the time was there for an official ‘Graduate’ version of the Spider, which was a 1985 base model with vinyl seat covering, manual mirrors, and steel wheels... But it was the later Kamm tail version with lots of added rubber. Long not as stylish as the earlier cars as seen in the movie.
