Betsy was used by Cheshire Fire Service (UK) from 1957 to 1975. She was based at Hazel Grove and Stalybridge Fire stations. She comes with an extensive provenance portfolio including details of every owner since she left the factory on Dec 31st 1956, and historic pictures of her in operation with Cheshire Fire Service.

Betsy comes with a fully working Coventry Climax Godiva FW fire pump, complete with suction hose, pressure hose, and nozzle. This 1020cc 4 cylinder fire pump engine is extremely rare as many were removed from pumps for use in early sports cars due to their lightweight alloy construction and high power output. (Lotus used an 1100cc FWA version in their F1 and Le Mans race cars in the early '60s - Google it, this is a really cool engine). At full power this pump will flow 6 gallons per second - enough to drain my swimming pool in ~30 mins! Even at tickover the force at the nozzle is sufficient to knock over an unsuspecting hose holder. Pumping demos are great fun, but beware.

Betsy has been maintained at various levels throughout her life - from a working fire truck to a farmer's off-road jalopy. Currently she is in fully-operational condition as she would have been at Stalybridge fire station. She is not a concourse trailer queen, but is in excellent mechanical and visual condition and is ready to be driven around town and used for pumping demonstrations. Her period-correct spot light, blue rotating beacon, fire service emblems and Winkworth bell from her fire service days are all fully operational

One seat has a 3/4" tear. The interior is clean and fully operational but not concourse-clean.

There is no rear glass between the pickup bed and the cab. She is well painted & polished, but shows dings, dents & scratches commensurate with a hard working old girl. Most of her fasteners are British Standard Fine (BSF) so the new owner will need a set of Whitworth wrenches. During her most recent renovation (2023/4) all incorrect metric fasteners have been replaced with BSW, BSF, or SAE fasteners & all insulation displacement cable connectors replaced with original bullets. The wiring harness is in excellent condition with new SU fuel pump, Wipac lights, and Lucas cable connector box. She comes with a variety of spare parts including mirrors, inner tube & wheel rim cover, carburetor and electronic ignition distributor.

Series 1 Land Rovers are relatively rare, but one with proven fire service provenance and a fully operational, period-correct fire pump is unique.
