A French gearbox mystery? (update: Alfa Romeo 2000-2600 Berlina)

Vincent Juvenelle is wondering about the identity of the gearbox he acquired last autumn. We asked him for more details and views. And for dimensions of course. He couldn't provide any of that. Since the day he got the gearbox in his possession a huge pile of other items has grown over the box and now it is out of sight unless he would start digging today and never stop for a day or so. Any of you who recognises the bellhouse or tail section?
