When Vincenzo Lancia tested the Lancia Aprilia in 1936 he was delighted, what a wonderful car, only one thing had to be changed, the maximum speed had to be reduced !
Due to his monocoque and to the electrically welded floorpan-cum-bodywork the car had extreme stiffness. It is said that during test Lancia engeneers inserted 4 tons of weight in the pillarless car before it started to show signs of bending.
The spectator on this picture certainly does not weigh 4 tons, but is that a reason to climb on top of an Aprilia ? Also note another specator on the hood af a Lancia Augusta.
These pictures where taken just after the war during the Giro d'Italia at the top of Passo Pardoi (2239 m; some 7500 feet). These pictures can be seen during a stop with the Via Flaminia Rally. Talk with organiser Bart Kleyn at this weekend's show Interclassics & Topmobiel.
