A Rotary-Rallye without a single Wankel-Engine?

It may sound strange to automotive ears, but this rally was a charity-Event, by the local Rotary International organisation. Start and finish were on the market-place of the little town of Monschau in the German Eifel. A very well mixed bunch of great cars had to find its route around Monschau. You had the chance to salute many German classics like a variety of Mercedes 220, one of only seven built 170 S "OMP" (for "Offener Mannschaftswagen Polizei") or a very rare BMW 3200CS, Italian sports cars including an Alfa Romeo 1900 Coupé, a Lancia Aprilia or a wonderful Stratos, French eccentric with a Citroen DS19 Break, a Bugatti T51 and a stunning Facel Vega FV2B, British thoroughbreds including two Alvis-Specials, two Armstrong-Siddeleys, a Daimler Dart and a good set of big cats. Of course many other countries were represented, too: a rare japanese Honda S800 Coupé, a swedish Volvo 1800E, a Corvette C1 and a Pontiac Catalina held up the Stars and Stripes and even a Southafrican born "Superformance" Cobra-MK III, the only Cobra-replica with the official blessing of Carrol Shelby, appeared. Sadly the weather showed its typical Eifel-behaviour. One could see many participans folding down the top of their cars in the morning, but soon after the sunny start,  deep dark clouds appeared and around noon, the rain started and soon after, even the cats and dogs started to pour the pictorial old town. But as usual, the smile in the drivers faces remained in place. Even without rotary propulsion.
