A Split Personality?

By Bart Oosterling: "I confess having a soft spot for split window cars. They are the original, first of the line models, later to evolve in more sleeker round window successors. I owned 2 Volvo 444’s, one of them even had split windows front and rear. Often born out of necessity as single piece windows were still too expensive to make. Some stories go that they made shovels out of the pieces left over from rear window cavities. Many makes stopped making split windowed cars after the war. Some continued: The VW Beetle and the type 1 Bus. The early XK Jaguars, the Morris Minor, the Saab 92. Not much later the split window disappeared as an unwanted visual obstruction.
The Porsche 356 “knickscheibe” is one of my favourites. But not the one pictured here. It is an original 356 split window, yes. It is in perfect condition and a nice colour too, yes. But… There is something wrong with this one: it has a serious split personality issue... click here to see the whole picture, no photoshopping!"
