We have a soft spot for this girl, here at Postwarcar. Don’t recognise her? Come on, it’s Britt Ekland. That’s her again. In her heyday Britt drove some groovy machinery, from MGB to coachbuilt Mini. But the grooviest of them all may have been the Lotus Elan given to her by Peter Sellers as an engagement present in 1964. The full fibreglass coupe conversion carried out by Shapecraft of Tolworth, Surrey, was – and is – rarer than hen’s teeth. Of the supposed 10 cars built only a few survive. Registered APJ 2B, Britt’s shapely Elan appears not to exist anymore – at least not by our friends of the DVLA. And that seems odd. So what happened to it? Wouldn’t it be nice to reunite the two after all these years? Five decades have passed since this picture was taken, but Britt – she still loves plastic.
