Another Birthday Boy

Just like Range Rover, the Citroën GS also fifty years old last month. When introduced in 1970 it was a remarkable car that had the hydropneumatic suspension of the DS, but came with a conventional 4-cylinder boxer engine. At that time Citroën was already experimenting with the Wankel engine, which later became available in the GS Birotor. The prototype shown here was called the M-35 and a small series was sold to the public with the provision that they drove it for at least 30.000 kilometers a year and agreed to regular inspections by the factory. Only 267 were made.
