Believe it or believe it not but today is said to be the most miserable day of the year. We’re not exactly believers, but a mathematical formula combining bad weather, debts and lack of motivation supposedly makes the third Monday of January as the most depressing day. And who are we to question that? We must admit that the news of the car as we know it having had its longest time does depress us sometimes, especially in the last couple of months, when the subject seems to be more discussed then ever before. Will we really see the combustion engine go within the next years?
Anyway: it did bring a little movie clip under the footlight about alternative power. It’s a 1975 clip from television programme Blue Peter, which was (and still is?) always good for technical novelties and inventions. This particular clip from the BBC archives was about how to beat rising petrol costs with a coal-powered car. That’s bound to be better for the environment, right..? But it’s an interesting piece of footage never the less, even alone if it was for the car itself: a Mk1 Ford Capri convertible - blue in colour, of course. A Crayford conversion? Or an Abbott? Or even an ultra-rare Carbodies Conversion? We’d love to know more about it on this Blue Monday, so please enlighten us with your knowledge on this dreary (?) day.
