Bonnet beauty

We’re not sure if it was her own idea or that of the photographer, but if there is one bonnet suitable to lie on - it’s that of the E-type. Matter of size, really, no Freudian jokes intended.

This one is a 4.2-litre Series 1. And when this shot was taken in the Spring of 1965 (yes, that’s 50 years ago today), this car was good for a staggering 241 km/h top, which must have made several girls swoon. The blonde about to faint on this picture appears to be actress Alicia Brandet - at her prime at the time, having scored roles for directors as diverse as Frederico Fellini to Lucio Fulci.

But where the E-type got increasingly civilised, fatter and uglier throughout the years, Alicia was more clever: she simply disappeared from the silver screen. Her last role dates back to 1970, when the Type E was about to become a lengthened 2+2 with more engine capacity than style. Good girl.
