Bonnet Mascot Mystery (UPDATE: '56 Olds)

About a year ago we picked up this large bonnet sculpture. Yes of course it is US made and it must be late fifties to fit in the fintail rocket design hype. But is is a standard item from a ........ (fill in the dots please)  or is it an aftermarket extra ? It looks familiar with the wing tanks and twin jet, yet we can't place it. To give you some idea of dimensions, from nose to wing tip is about 35 cm ; a bit more than 1 foot.  (photo by editor) 
Trivial Knowledge, with rocket-design we point at the fifties, not at the crazy contraption (zedomax.com) recently spotted in LA.
