We didn't know about the Borgward with air suspension untill Jesper Tichelaar told us about it! Now we are curious about all other air suspension cars of that time. We know of the Mercedes 300SE saloon, brought to victory in the 1963 Akropolis Rally by works driver Eugene Boehringer. Can you tell us about other air suspension cars of the time?
Jesper Tichelaar: In the first picture we see a Borgward P100 as seen at the Eelde Motorshow in The Netherlands. In 1959 the Borgward P100 was presented in Germany. From the first instant Mr. Carl F. W. Borgward knew he was taking a big gamble with this new car. As always the Borgward was built very sturdy and reliable and featured several innovations. Most popular being the self leveling air suspension. The innovative features together with a modern design gave the car some good appeal to the public. The 2250cc straight 6, used in earlier large Borgwards produced 100 horsepower giving it a top speed of 160km/h. The P100 was built to compete with the larger Mercedes cars of that time like the 220SE. After producing 2530 cars Borgward went bankrupt and the production of the modern P100 was stopped.
