Buenos Aires Mystery Body (upd. rear engined !! )

This lovely aluminium body turned up in a scrap yard Buenos Aires Argentina some years back. We can't determine if this is fine local craftsmanship, or that we have the remains of a European sports car manufactured in small numbers. I do hope some smart reader will shed some light. editor: well at least the engine showing on the side looks like US made machinery.
