Yesterday we showed you a VW bus, waiting for an offer in Uruguay. Today we can tell you better to be quick. Austrian auctioneers Auctionata (that’s it for alliterations for today) are ready to set a world record. At least, that’s what they believe. For 28 November they have announced to hammer off a Volkswagen T1 with a totally whopping estimate. Seat yourself – they believe the car to make a staggering 240,000 Euros - That's almost 170,000 euros on top of top prices paid for these cars in the recent past.
So what makes them think it’s worth that kind of money? Well, it’s a fact that T1s are in the lift since a couple of years. And this one is the sought-after Samba, with all the cute little windows in the roof. According to the sellers it has to be the best-kept example of the species. And who are we to question that? The car was delivered in February 1955 by VW-dealer Autohaus Retter in Innsbruck to a nice lady-owner who kept it for decades without saving on the maintenance bills – all the records are kept with the car, including a period Samsonite suitcase to keep them. But don’t think this little Samba is wearing its original coat of two-tone paint though - it was repainted in 1990.
Now, over to you. Cool or crazy?
