For the love of caravans

More lovely film footage from British Pathe. We showed you a Land Rover club meeting they filmed in the 1960s (here), but how about this one? What we see is images from the sixth Road Rally of the British Caravan Club, shot in 1960. Now, we are no big caravan enthusiasts ourselves, but seeing this should make every classic car adept love them. Oh, and then the tow cars! Humber Sceptre, Ford Consul, Rover P4, Wolseley 6/90, a Hillman, Jaguars and Minis.

Caravanning was certainly taken serious. With hill-climbing tests; parking tests, braking tests, fast towing tests, all on the Oulton Park course no less. And there's a Concours d'elegance too, "In which points were awarded for design, workmanship, condition, and even the practicality of the outfit" Note that there are several caravans in matching colours to the tow cars! What a difference to the all-white horrids of today.
