Celebrating the scruffy in the post-war world

The Automobile's recent Oily Rag Run highlighted that, while a relatively new concept in the more high-profile motoring events such as Pebble Beach, grass-roots enthusiasts have been fighting the corner of unrestored, conserved cars for years. Although gaining ground in the mainstream prewar car world, things are still moving slowly on the post-war side. Perhaps it is because many people can still remember seeing similarly tatty 1950s and '60s cars in regular use in the past? Take a look at this pair of original motors – a 1962 Porsche 356 on the left and a 1952 Panhard Dyna on the right – and we hope you'll start to see the appeal of Oily Rag motoring.

More photographs from the run can be seen on The Automobile's website.
