Cologne's Christmas car markets

Christmas may seem an Anglican tradition, but the Germans traditionally celebrate it with markets and fairs from now-on on just about any village square. What to do there? Well, you can eat and drink and buy all sorts of things that you do not neccesarily need. Nice? Perhaps. Cologne is a town that’s particularly big in Christmas fairs. From the tourist board’s website: “From 27 November to 23 December, the magic of Christmas will be felt throughout the festively decorated city. The aroma of baked apples, cinnamon biscuits and mulled wine will waft through the alleys.”

But we found you an alternative. Just prior to the fair, there are some more things to see and do in Cologne. How about Retro Classics Cologne? It takes place from 24 to 26 November, and according to the organizers it “has long been one of the noblest and most important addresses of the international vintage car scene. As a central meeting point for lovers of automotive legends, the sophisticated event mobilizes exhibitors and visitors from all over Europe and overseas.”  Well-well. Some of the cars on display here are the ones from the collection of local Michael Schumacher and from the Autostadt museum. There is also an auction by Classicbid-Auktion on the 25th, but we couldn’t quite figure out what they are selling. More information here.

Slightly more down to earth in another part of Cologne is an autojumble and flea market, organised by MPs Classics. All classics are welcome and hiring a stand here is free of charge, with the only conditions being a registration (“for our space planning”) “and that they are vintage parts". We like that. Enjoy!
