Do restorations still pay in 2017?

Going by the estimates of Coys’ Interclassics Sale in Maastricht next weekend, they do. Just have a look at the two Healey Hundreds that Coys will hammer off. First of them is a restoration job in the shape of a very early 1953 BN1-model. It comes with matching numbers and in much-coveted Healey Blue with blue inside. But it is as rotten as a pear. Estimate: 25- to 30,000 euros.

That’s one. Second is a 1956 BN2-model. This one also comes with matching numbers, the desirable ‘M’-specification and in beautiful black with red leather inside. And… in the auctioneers own words this car ‘has undergone a meticulous restoration by one of the world’s leading Healey 100 experts.’ Judging by the pictures it looks stunning indeed. But wait for it: the estimate is 180- to 220,000 euros – that’s over 7 times as much as the first car. Worth the hassle of a restoration? You tell us.
