Let’s be honest here… would you have recognized this fella with his dented Austin A35? We didn’t, although we were a big fan of him during his racing career. Yep, it’s Formula I racing driver James Hunt, who off track used this 1967 Austin 35 Van Countryman as his daily transport. After his untimely death due to a heart attack in 1993, the A35 was put in storage when it still had his last cigarette butts in the ashtray and a sprinkling of Trill in the rear where James transported his beloved budgerigars to shows! Now, 18 years later, the Austin A35 Van comes out again to be auctioned by Silverstone Auctions this July. According to them the Austin starts and runs, but would likely need some mechanical attention before being put back on the road, and the well-worn interior bears testament to the car’s lifetime, including its ‘bird-loving’ owner!
