What is it? PostWar Christmas Quiz Day 7

A smooth racer to drive into the new year. Today’s quiz is the last one and is the second generation of this automobile. It was a sales success so you might even know someone who was using this as a daily driver.

2018 was a memorable year for us here at PostWarClassic. We fully revamped our website in September. We also wonder what lies ahead for the new year. It’s another blanc sheet, ready for motoring adventures to come. 

 

A mystery chassis to start the New Year

What is it? A rolling chassis, that's for sure, and it appears to be of a rather big car. The several holes drilled in the front suspension appear to indicate someone attempted to make this big thing at least slightly lighter. Was it meant for racing purposes? Or just to compensate for the heavy steel used?

 

Flower car the steal of the year already?

We fell for the 1950s American flower car used at funeral services after seeing the 1969 movie ‘Alice’s Restaurant’. The car seen was built by coachbuilder Eureka, based on a 1953 Cadillac chassis. These vehicles are very rare now, but Worldwide Auctioneers offers one for sale in their upcoming Scottsdale Auction.

 

South pole ladies don’t use cars

Oh la la! Feeling cold already? Then stop reading, since things are getting much colder from here. It would be appropriate to stand still with an achievement made on this very day in 1958. When New Zealand explorer Sir Edmund Hillary arrived at the South Pole.
