Electric DB6: electrifying?

Classic cars with electric power are nothing new. And some like them, while others don’t. That, too, cannot be anything novel. But Aston Martin Works has now come up with an idea that may just be the best of both worlds?

In an attempt ‘to future-proof the company’s vintage drivers’ they offer a chance to get customer’s cars electrified, but perhaps not as we know it. They’ve come up with a ‘casette’ powertrain that is an addition to the car’s conventional petrol engine and is supposedly designed to fit in place of the Aston’s original engine without any damage. Owners can keep these dinosaur combustion engines in their garages or turn them into coffee tables.

There is no mention about the actual technical side of the electric power train, its power output or even its range, but they’ve tried it out on a virginal white 1970 DB6 Volante Mk2. Some sources suggest the powertrain is similar to the one used by Jaguar, and seen last summer on the E-type used in Prince Harry’s wedding (as here).

Paul Spires, Aston Martin Works’ president, added: “We have been looking for some time to find a way of protecting our customers’ long-term enjoyment of their cars. Driving a classic Aston Martin on pure EV power is a unique experience and one that will no doubt be extremely attractive to many owners, especially those who live in city centers.”

I would also love to swap my engine for something cleaner who wouldn't?, but here's the rub 1stly the cost , most people have not the funds to do so on top of the money already invested in there car and the confusion around the so called cleaner electric car throws doubt into the argument.
Why has hydrogen power being ignored? Is it because of fears from energy suppliers? Or the tax man? I say this because to produce hydrogen I believe does not cause as much pollution and it's biproduct is H20 .
What I don't want is power stations pumping out more fossil fuels to produce the so called clean electric cars.
Just food for thought.

What a weird idea, people should know how dirty that "clean" energy called electricity really is. It is one of modern world most lied things about. The electric car pollutes the world more than the combustion engine, nevertheless the car that is already built and on the road is environmentally the cleanest anyway. We should just try to use our cars in a more sensible way. But electricity cannot be the solution. Efficency of electrical power coming from your wall socket will be down by 90% after producing and all that transforming up and down and the greenwashing of not needed electricity, so who wants to blame the combustion engine with around 30% of efficiency.
We will also have to learn that pollution is carried around the world by winds and the "clean electric car" used in China pollutes our air six times more than a modern diesel because of the way the chinese produce their electricity. And we have not taked about the production of batteries and electronic stuff, but that would lead to a long discussion anyways.
The DB6 as shown is built for someone who wants to show his green coat but dosnt give a dam´n about our world and he/ she is probably not able to work the clutch and change gears anymore.
At last, no I am not a "green terrorist" just somebody who cares and I´m still having fun with my old vehicles. But we have to watch out that the greedy bunch of people ruling us, will not put a ban on the use of our "old" vehicles because of enviromental things and force us to spend our money on modern rubbish and VAT.
Keep up the good work,
Thomas from Tyrol
