French romance

One of the beauties of the Burgundy region is its untidiness. People just don’t seem to see the utility of getting rid of things old. With every rural town having a delicious sense of faded glory, with peeling paint on shutters and old wall advertising everywhere. Many a forest walk will surprise you at one point with a ruin or an overgrown car. During our holidays in this gorgeous place we came across several, without even looking for them.

One of the best was this Renault 4CV, parked on top of a hill which was particularly steep and not easy to climb for little girls. Even with a tractor it must been a challenge to get it there, but there it was – sunk into the ground to its axles. A real reward for the girls and a great picnic spot, too. Or do you prefer to see things from the shiny side of life? Then the girl above will comfort you. Somebody like this lady must have bought ‘our’ forest car when new and must have cared for it all those years ago. Perhaps it, too, was driven to holiday destinations with some cheerful girls in the back. Ah – the romance of the wreckage. It does indeed trigger the imagination.
