How about this place for a concours?

Concourses are the craze, and they continue to be organized everywhere, ranging from century old traditional events to brand new ones. The inaugural Concours of South Africa took place last year at Sun City – a lavish holiday resort in a game reserve, but controversial to some, who described it as ‘a fantasy island in the midst of hell’. You may remember the 1985 song. But since re-corporation in the new South-Africa, the place continues to thrive and brought together some of the finest classic cars from around South-Africa for the first time last year. South Africa hides plenty of nice and some fascinating cars fit for a concours. About 150 of them rolled onto the lawns of Sun City in 2016, between the resort’s famous 19th hole, the original Sun City Hotel and the tennis courts. A DeTomaso Pantera won the Best of Show title.

For this year the competition will be held from 4 to 6 August and it is once again limited to 150 cars. Prior to the prize giving, there will be a gala diner, a conference about values in the classic car market and an auction, organized by Coys of Kensington, too. Spectator entrance is free, so if you are planning a holiday to Africa, Sun City or not, you may be tempted to have a look at the concours. More information here.
