And even more than fifty years. Compare the interior of one of the first MGB prototypes from late spring 1960 with that of its predecessor the MGA (already an early 1950s design) . Notice the similarity? Yet development went further and the B´s interior became more plush as that was what the public demanded. No more spartan sports cars (although MG TC and MG TD owners also complained of the MGA's luxury). When the production model was introduced in 1962 the MGB had a nicer steering wheel, crackle black painted dashboard, wind-up windows, more carpeting and even door handles, which the MGA did not have. And the luxury even went a step further with the rubber bumper models that came in 1976 and lasted until 1980 when the last MGB rolled off the production line in Abingdon. Fifty years after its introduction many celebrations are being held, at MGLive! at Silverstone this coming weekend, but many car shows around the world will also feature the MGB as their star attraction.
