Land Rovers in action - in 1964

Honestly, we have always been slightly afraid of car clubs. Or perhaps more of car club members. There are some truly frightening people among them. And you meet them at car club meetings. They won't rest before they've made you clear that certain nuts and bolts really shouldn't be on a car. Your car. Or they are very eager to show you picture books of their own car's restoration. Sometimes a bit too eager. With the books often perhaps a bit too detailed. Yes, that's called passion, and it's a great thing. But believe us - it can be a frightening thing too. So how refreshing the above movie clip is! This is about a club meeting too. It's one of 'that proud association' with the Land Rover Owner's Club that was held back in 1964. They hold a parking game called 'unmusical barrels' - something similar to 'musical chairs albeit in cars. They do a hill climb and enjoy a mud bath Land Rovers. There are men drivers in typical tweed wear, women drivers with typical hair protection. They all seem to have great fun, without sparing their vehicles too much. To quote the British Pathe reporter: "Land Rovers? Mud larks would be a far better name for this distant relative of the sedate family car." We love it.
