We presented you the Jaguar of scream queen Yvonne DeCarlo a while ago. Do fear - it’s not alone. And its sister vehicle comes with an equally spooky/sensual/silly (delete if not applicable) lady, too. Meet Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. For those not familiar with the genre: she’s a horror movie host who made her own movie, too. Click here to see more (do we need to warn you?).
Back to the car, dubbed the Macabre Mobile: a 1958 Thunderbird once more customized by master craftsman George Barris. Yep – the man who also did Yvonne’s Jag. And he took it to the same theme once more. With chromed cobwebs, bats, eyeballs and skulls definitely a car that would do well with Halloween. There’s a chain-link steering wheel and a hood ornament that would turn Rene Lalique in his grave, while upholstery comes in leopard skin motif. The thing was even turned into a scale model. Interestingly, the real thing started life as a hardtop and was turned into a convertible T-bird by Barris. Not one but two are said to have been built, with the last of the two auctioned last year (it made 29,700 dollars) – the other one is supposedly still owned by the Mistress herself. Be careful out there.
