Maintaining a classic car collection in the middle of war zone

Another sad story reached us from Aleppo, Syria, today. Or perhaps it’s a blessed story? You decide. While rebels have turned the ancient city into a ghost of its past, Mohamed Mohideen Enis Abu Omar clings to his faith that the war will end one day, when he can hopefully enjoy his classic cars again. The 69 year old Syrian doctor lives alone, after the rest of his family fled, and is now struggling to maintain his 24 classics cars – all that he has left now.

Abu Omar told AFP News that he wouldn’t want to flee the country, simply as he wouldn’t want to leave his cherished cars to their fate, right in the middle of the war zone. Among them what is believed to be the 1947 Cadillac of former Syrian army leader 'Ali Watfah. Abu Omar said: “I like old things because they were made differently and more robust. I like all products that last.” Question is if his collection will last. Six of his cars have already been hit several times “But with God’s help I keep repairing them”, said the doctor, who used to dream of exhibiting his classic car collection. He has now decided to wait for the war to end so he can pass them on to his children. What a brave man.
