Straight from Redneck Country comes this amazing collection of (mostly) Cadillacs, all of which will be offered for sale in an auction on April 21. It’s called the ‘Rick Smith Cadillac and finned car collection auction’ and there’s not a word too many in that description. No less then 295 cars that were collected in the life of Mister Smith are now looking for a new owner.
The majority of these cars is in a sorry state, but the amount of them alone is massively overwhelming. The reason that they are now coming up for sale is not the death of its caretaker. Smith is still among us but suffered a heart disease some years ago. As one article writes: “It was a wake-up call that made him realize that it was time to think of selling his collection. His sons were not interested in the collection meaning it was time to start selling and letting more people know about his collection. He sold parts and cars over the years, but now is time to sell them all.”
He is said to be a Rock ‘n Roll man and a huge Elvis fanatic, and believes the 1959 Cadillac to be the personification of the Rock ‘n Roll age. Among the cars in his yard are no less then 50 of them. But you’ll find a Cadillac from just about any model year of the 1950s and 1960s here, just as well as other big finned cars from Chrysler, Pontiac, DeSoto, Oldsmobile, Buick, Plymouth, Dodge, Licoln, Mercury, and other ‘50s designs. Smith reputedly said: “When you’re driving a big finned Cadillac, there’s nothing better. Living large in Texas! When you meet one of the finned cars on the road it’s like nothing you’ll ever see.”
The sale takes place on the spot at Windsor Drive in Longview, Texas. And the full catalogue can be seen here. Take your time to have a look!
