Let's send congratulations to Robert Stewart!

These two photos came in from New Zealand from true afficionado Robert Stewart who only added these seven words to this two photos of shiny tip-top Austin Devon: "Fully restored over a ten year period."

One thing is clear, this guy is in the hobby for the fun of it and nothing else. Bringing back a car to the road which probably will never bring him back the money he invested on parts, materials and paint. Not to speak of the countless, umpteen thousands of hours he spent.

The restoration of a four door saloon of this fifties means lots and lots and tons of work when done properly. All this just for the fun of working and restoring and now presenting to you all. Let's show him our sympathy and admiration. Superb job Robert. Please tell us a bit more. How you found it, in which condition and what are your next plans? Driving it, showing it?

UPDATE: more info on the car came in from Robert Stewart:

"I bought my 1952 GS3 A40 Devon in 1987 in average condition. It had been damaged from being reversed into a lamp post with considerable force, and the engine wasn't running very well.

It had had several owners, apparently within the same family. I took it completely apart and cleaned everything. All the nuts and bolts were wire-brushed and sprayed with fisholene. The body was panelbeaten and painted, the chassis painted, suspension sent off and completely rebuilt. The engine and gearbox were reconditioned, as were the brakes, and new fluid lines included.

Reassembly then began. At this time I had moved homes, and did not have a workshop for ten years, then went back to the rebuild. A friend painted the car for me, at the cost of my XJ900 Yamaha motorbike. The car then went to the upholsterer, and finally the chrome was done and fitted.

It has been back on the road for two years of trouble free motoring, which is testimony to paying attention to detail."
