Book review by Michael E Ware: Peter Warr was a car mad teenager and in 1958 he travelled to the "...tiny, cramped Lotus works behind Chapman's fathers pub...". There was no one free to show him around, so he was allowed to wander. Later Foreman Roy Baldock said to him "Don't just stand there doing nothing, give us a hand". By the end of the day Peter Warr had met Colin Chapman who offered him a job as assistant. "How lucky was I! My hobby became my job and I ended up doing it almost my entire life". Between 1969 and 1989 Peter was closely associated with Formula 1, spending most of that time running Team Lotus. This book is the story of Peter Warr's life from that lucky day in 1958. It gives a wonderful background to Lotus in those early days and later. The chapter on Colin Chapman is most revealing, but it is the chapter on racing mechanics and another on the engineers that may well be best remembered. Peter died quite unexpectedly in October 2010. This book had been written in draft but not completed. Haynes passed the manuscript to motoring journalist Simon Taylor to bring it all together. The combination works well and makes this a very readable and interesting book (see Read More for the details)
