This lovely image was sent over to us on Monday, asking if we knew more about it. We don't. But then, we can have a close look and try to see whether we can find out a little more.
Looking at the cars, the people and the overall atmosphere we think this must be a mid-1960s shot. Apart from the BP decal on that blue overall there's no sponsoring to be found on the cars or clothing. And since advertisements in motor sports took a flight in the second half of that decade, we believe that fits in with our thought.
Then there are the cars. Formula 3s? Or even Formula 2s? You tell us. All we know for (quite) sure is that the Minis in the background are both Cooper 'S's. The red one on the right wears the 'Austin Cooper S' script on its boot, while the right hand petrol filler cap on the green one on the left can just be seen. The Lotus Elan ('Wedgewood Blue'?) also fits the bill. No idea what that grey door is from, but feel free to enlighten us about that too.
There are two more possible giveaways: the people and the track. We think the man in blue overalls is a very young Ronnie Peterson, but correct us if we're wrong. Who the others are, we don't know. And the circuit, that must surely a be an English one..?
Over to you!
UPDATE: Severeal replies, thank you! Is it Sweden rather than the UK? Several hints may point towards that. The grey door is from a Saab, the Swebe F3 racing car (of 1966 vintage according to you) is painted in Swedish racing colours. And the trees in the background remind one dear reader of his juvenile holidays in Scandinavia! Could it be Karlskoga circuit...?
