We’ve seen ladies before doing or demonstrating things unknown to us. Here we have another leaving us puzzled. Well, for a while that is. The ‘Kustoms of Los Angeles’ plate eventually provided the answer and we did find out more about the car soon. Much more. This thing definitely is no mystery in Socal Kustom Circles. The ‘Hirohata Merc’ as it is named has its own Wikipedia page and has been described in umpteen magazine reports since the early 1950s. It is supposed to have won 184 trophies in just a few years time, too and is still about, doing shows every now and then.
So what’s the lady demonstrating? It appears to be the a two-way radio system with portable rear speaker plus 50-foot extension cord to use it for beaches and picnics – no one ever heard of a ghetto-blaster when this car came about. This explains the double antennas on each rear wing, too, although these have gone now. Still a bit of a mystery then.
