Where to start when you spot? (UPDATE: 1941 DeSoto)

A car recently spotted not too far from the PWC headquarters. Not by ourself, but by Hidde Zwaagstra, business development director at MecGlobal, an international media buying & strategy company. Thinking about complicated new business issues Mr. Zwaagstra still wasn't too lazy to aim his I-phone on the classic he was passing. Thanks Hidde! He loves old Jeeps and owns a 1959 Munga himself, but otherwise he is not a big carsleuth. So suppose you were in his shoes how would you crack this little mystery? What would be your strategy? Of course you know that it is US made. And yes it is most probably a late forties. Those are the easy steps. But then? Where to navigate on. 1947 Chevy? Sure not, they only had no horizontal radiator detailing back then. '47 Pontiac? No way, same issue! 1948 Ford? No way..!

So what is it? Yes ok, sure, if you simply remember it's easy. But if you don't, what's the simplest most effective way to ID this vertical louvred Sedan? Maybe the rear end will help?
