Postwar X-mas Puzzle day 2

For part two of our six day quiz we found a very nice period (1950s) refrigerator. The company that made them merged in 1937 with an American car manufacturer, who in turn merged in 1954 with another American marque and they became a division of a new-formed company. What we want to hear from you is the post-war name of the company. Sounds complicated? Yes, it is! So we'll give you one more clue... after the merger in 1954 the company kept rambling on until 1988.

Write down the make, but please DO NOT send us your answer before the last puzzle has been published. Of course you can contact us on all other topics, because our office is always staffed!
