Aston Martin, the ever stylish Great British brand, has seen different days. As a matter of fact the company – born no less than 102 years ago - has seen more near-death experiences than Evel Knievel. As far as we have been able to verify it was sold fourteen times while the workshop moved more often than the tent of a travelling circus, boasting a constant flow of bosses, directors and managers. Bothersome may be the understated word.
Things were hardly different back in 1964, when this photograph was taken. Tractor builder David Brown was at the helm after having taken over the ailing factory for 30,000 pounds from an ad in The Times. But the DB5 was to become one of his greatest successes. And to unveil it some scantily clad girls were put on its wings – simple as that. This was of course all before that detective bloke came around attracting all the girls with some gadgets in and on his Aston.
There were no show girls at the Aston Martin display of this year in Geneva. Alas, we had to do with the current boss there, to show the new set of wheels for Bond. Slightly less stylish, we think…
