Rarest Mercedes Ponton ever?

Portuguese enthusiasts have an appetite for weird classic cars, and is not unusual to come across old ambulances, tow trucks or fire engines at events in Portugal devoted to our hobby. Almost every week(end) all over the country. This time the subject of our conjectures is a "common" Mercedes Benz; specifically a W 120 or 121 "Ponton series" from the early 1960s. The rear number plate tells "instruçao", which means training in Portuguese, and if we take a look at the cockpit we can spot two parallel steering wheel and pedal sets. The matt green paint indicates a past in the Portuguese Army´s driving school, but how about the "customised" rear end? The rear wings, trunk door and tail lights are completely different from the original. Even the rear window is smaller than usual. Also notable is the lack of rear doors or the interior screen between the drivers and the passenger compartment. Nevertheless the front end is totally standard, so perhaps this car is based on an old Pick Up chassis by Binz or on an old staff car which suffered an accident? Who knows...
