Re-igniting the flame with a lost love

Most enthusiasts probably have a 'car that got away' story - something treasured, perhaps from their early days of motoring, that has remained ingrained in their memory for years or even decades, a vehicle so special that they would drop everything for the chance to own it once again. Many of them, in fact, actively seek out the objects of their desire only to find some uncaring subsequent owner consigned their pride and joy to the scrapheap long ago.  How many of them actually make contact with these lost loves, and how many of those get a chance to drive the car again? Very few, we imagine.
For Christopher Stewart, a former investment banker and amateur racing driver, the car in question was a very special Morgan Plus Four that was given to him by his father in 1960 as a 21st birthday present. This wasn't any ordinary Plus Four, but a full Supersports-spec racer converted by the renowned tuner Chris Lawrence, one of just 101 such cars built by his Lawrence Tune outfit. Stewart raced the car in Europe for a couple of years before selling it with 20,000 miles on the clock, but he always held a candle for the Morgan, and when he retired 10 years ago he began to hunt in earnest for his old car.
Amazingly, he not only discovered the car safe and sound in the hands of a fellow enthusiast, but they have since become firm friends and Stewart drives his old Morgan regularly. The Automobile magazine recently got the two together for a nostalgic photo shoot which served to re-ignite Stewart's passion for his old race car. Stewart has not managed to convince the current owner to part with it yet, but we are sure he'll keep trying until he does....
