Renault takes full works team to Monte Carlo Historique

Renault knows how to revive the old days! They announced only last week they will make it to the start of the Monte Carlo Historique rally with a Renault Classic works team of no less than four cars. Alpines or R8 Gordinis may have seemed the logical weapons of choice, but instead they go for a field of Group 2 Renault 5 Alpines. And, boy, do they look good! We think it may well be the first time a full works team is set up to make it to a historic rally?

The team is backed up by Renault rally veteran Jean Ragnotti, who drove one such car to second overall in the 1978 Monte originally, so he knows how to deal with them. The four cars will now be driven and navigated by the following crews: Car 5: Guy Fréquelin / Laurent Perquin, Car 6: Emmanuel Guigou / Michel Duvernay, Car 7: Christian Chambord / Patrick Fourestié, Car 8: Patrick Henry / Jean-Pierre Prévot. They will start in Reims this Friday, February 2, and will hopefully finish in Monaco next Wednesday, February 7. We wish them all the best of luck!
