Revival of the XK-eating Pegaso Bisiluro...

You may think this bizarre project was made for a fantasy movie or perhaps for a carnival scene, however this project is a very serious attempt to revive - replicate if you like - a very significant car which was lost in history. The original had the appearance of a true "Bat" mobile: The Pegaso Z-102 "Bisiluro", named like this for its two great pontoons in each side of the body with great fins in the rear part, and with the cabin located in the right pontoon, with room for the pilot.

The few prototypes were constructed for a possible participation in Le Mans, but due to stability problems were finally used to beat the 1 mille record which at that time was taken by the Jaguar XK 120. The test run was at the famous stretch near Jabbekke, Belgium, under the supervision of the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium. Although the 2,5 Liter V8 engine had two compressors and produced no less than 360 HP it lacked enough for a new record. This recreation has components from a variety of marques: the engine a Chevrolet V8 with similar displacement as the original Pegaso and the transaxle gearbox plus de dion rear axle orginate from an Alfa Romeo 75. When finished it will be a most imposing appearance on any circuit yet for the moment we need to satisfy ourselves with the work in progress on this page.
