Excuse us for our love of scrap metal, but this film footage needs to be seen. It is an 8-minute movie about the car scrapping business in the 1960s with fantastic and very good quality images of the end of the motoring cycle in days gone by. From the voice over: “All over the country, hundreds of derelict car have been dumped by the roadside every week. And it’s going to get worse. By 1970 there may be 700.000 cars a year being junked.”
We would have loved to have a look at that huge scrapyard at Waltham Cross, “Believed to be Europe’s biggest” at the time. Perhaps some of our readers may remember the place? Enjoy the video and just give a shout if you spot something worth mentioning.
