Siberian hyperbole


Over in this part of the world, we are undergoing some cold weather. With the wind coming from the east it’s the cold blowing from Russia to this way that has given us temperatures below zero for some time now. And it’s this wind direction that has now permitted weathermen – and weatherwomen – all around Europa to use the phrase ‘Siberian’ all the time.

A beautiful hyperbole. Siberia is known for its long and harsh winters, but we think it’s still slightly colder there. Siberia’s January average is -25 degrees Celcius, and that’s a figure measured over a long period of time.

What we’d love to hear from you is how your car behaves. Or don’t you drive your classic in this period of the year? The (Italian registered?) VW Beetle seems to be doing well. Oh - his photograph was taken in the early 1960s on the Carretera General in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Granada, Spain. That’s pretty far away from Siberia and remarkably close to northern-Africa...
