Australian writer and broadcaster James Nicholls was born 50 years too late. Or maybe right in time depending what perspective you prefer. His latest weekend thriller is a lighthearted pageturner in the tradition of Charteris and Flemming. One could easily put it aside with the stamp retro-literature; the cover design is a wink to collectable paperbacks of the sixties. Yet that would be too easy.
The cars that were new supercars in the haytime of Mr. Bond and Templar have become highly valued collector cars in Nicholls' fast moving story. But no worries, it's not a piece of long copy from Classic & Sportscar There's no overload of tin and cars in the pages. It's just the sheer enthusiasm of the writer which is showing in places. His enthusiasm for female beauty is maybe even more abundant. And where these two worlds meet, well... we can only encourage you to enjoy the fast ride in chapter six/seven from a Chelsea showroom to a major hotel in Genova. Take the seat of Jack Coldstream in the Miura SV , er... Miss Jenny is on your left. The rest is in the pages.
When you close the book after page 170 there's still penty of time in the weekend for more pleasurable matters than reading. And then there's still the comforting thought that Signed, Sealed, Deliverd is only part I of the Dante Trilogy. We asked James about Part II, yet he didn't want to tell when it will be out. Hopefully before the dark December days.
This is the life of James Nicholls which also is the backdrop of his trilogy hero Jack Coldstream in Signed, Sealed, Delivered.
