Remember the Monkees? If you’ve lived through the sixties… sure you do! The Monkees were a pop group, especially created for a TV-series in 1966, sort of a Beatles-like band. But they became famous of their own due to classics like 'I'm a Believer', 'Last Train to Clarksville' and 'Daydream Believer' to name but a few. During the TV-series the Monkees drove a customized Pontiac GTO, known as the ‘Monkeemobile’. It featured a forward tilting split two-piece windshield, a touring car T-bucket-type convertible top, modified rear quarter panels and front fenders, exaggerated rear tail lamps, a set of four bucket seats with additional third row bench seat where the rear deck should have been, and a parachute!
In June this year, three original members of the band – Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Davy Jones – did a reunion tour in the UK and were re-united with a recreation of the Monkeemobile especially made for this 2011 tour. Now this recreation will be offered by Historics during their auction at Brooklands on July 19th. Are you a Daydream Believer? Then go for it!
Update: The Monkeemobile fetched an awesome £75,900, see the press release by Historics
