The best motor museum we haven’t been to?

Well, well. We spent the last two weeks in sunny Spain and enjoyed every minute of it. Interestingly, we haven’t seen a single classic car in all those days. No flashy convertibles driven by well-to-do-tourists and no bumped 1960s pick-ups driven by local fishermen. Not one, not even Citroen Meharis or Mini Mokes. Just ordinary rentals and quite a few Range Rovers with Arab signs on their licence plates. Did we miss them? Well, there was quite a lot else to see and do, so not really.

However, when we read an article about the Museo Automovilístico de Málaga on the day we left, this seemed like a major missed opportunity. The museum is based in a completely refurbished tobacco factory, with a modest park surrounding it and only separated from the beach by a street or two. It is said to show some 90 cars from the collection of Joao Magalhaes and all the usual suspects that will create ‘ohs’ and ‘ahs’ from visitors are there. But it appears to be in for several surprises, too. You can have a pretty good look inside here. What you may notice is that many of the cars have a matching mannequin next to it with period dress. Fashion has to be another passion for Magalhaes. You can see 300 vintage hats and dresses from all the great names in fashion: Chanel, Dior, Lanvin. Perhaps you’ve been to this place yourself? If we’re ever in Malaga again, we won’t miss out in it.
