Friday is ladies day over here at postwarclassics - has been for years now. But on Friday the 13th we thought we’d better not take your average lovely. Time for a scream queen. Not too many of these girls can be associated with wheels, though, but actress Yvonne DeCarlo is a great exception. Mostly since she starred in The Munsters – that uncanny 1960s television series, which spawned some unusual cars.
In fact Yvonne loved her role as Lily Munster so much, she decided to have her private wheels customised in Munsters fashion, too. A job perfectly suited for famous George Barris. Base vehicle became a brand new (1966) Jaguar Mk10, resprayed in ‘ebony spider web black’. It came with gold-plated coffin grip rails on its roof and coffin handles to the rear plus spiderweb hubcaps. The door panels were adorned with ‘a gold-plated crest of Lily's family from Transylvania’, while a wolf’s head with lighted ruby red eyes was used to form a fitting hood ornament. Inside you stumbled upon blood red leather and hand sewn Austrian swags with gray silk drapes. Absurd or awful? You have to admit, though, it would be a great car to rediscover, whether it’s in a Hollywood mansion or in a Transylvanian castle.
