Hans Cornelisse who earlier brought up this 'IFA Mystery' from Uruguay now personally went over to inspect the car:
“The car was owned by The Great Estanciero, a rich landlord who bought the car in 1971 anf it was registered as a 1951 IFA, still I have strong doubts about the model's identity. The current owner bought it some ten years ago from the landlord’s widow. Unfortunately there is no type/ID plate to be spotted under the bonnet. The inner wings look original. At the front end some restoration work was done, probably related to an accident. The dashboard, engine, suspension, drivetrain and steering arrangement look original. I would bet my life that the body of the car is all original, including the suicide doors, whether it is an IFA or not."
(editor: we think it is not a matter of being an IFA or not, but which exact bodywork is involved)
"There are clear marks that there used be a front windshield. The top bows of the convertible top look homemade. I suspect there is too much space in the inside of the car to be a barchetta. Rather a coupe. The panel between the rearwings is without doubt an original part of the body, due to this - in my view - no way the car can be a P70 (see shape and size of the trunklid of the P70. But as you can see we do have a motor number 01-41349. What could we find through that number? Meanwhile I’m as curious as a young lass."
