After World War II many American families started living in the suburbs, which meant that the days of the one-car family had gone. Father needed the car to commute work, while the mother stayed at home, but also needed a car to get to the shopping malls. This post-war change of living was noticed by the Dodge management, who decided to target one of their models especially at the stay-at-home women. This marketing strategy became the 1955 Dodge La Femme that featured a Heather Rose and Sapphire White two tone exterior treatment and a “La Femme Only” rosebud cloth fabric interior. Also included were “a stunning shoulder bag in soft rose leather; a stylish rain cape; a fisherman's style rain hat and an umbrella.” To provide storage for these items, Dodge created special compartments behind the front seats. The La Femme model continued slightly changed into 1956. Not many of these La Femme Dodges have survived and the accessories are even rarer as they tended to disappear even before the new model reached the dealer! If you own a 1955 or 1956 Dodge La Femme, or are just interested, be sure to have look at this website that caters for this special Dodge. They would love to hear from you.
