A new weekend means a new puzzle. But not yet the new period. We must apologize as we assumed that the six-month-competition ended last week but no, there is still one post-war puzzle and one pre-war quiz left. So still anything can happen.

We will start with the potential winners; leader is Gerd Klioba with 66 points and runner up is Fried Stol with 58 points. But as only the best 20 quizzes will count, the difference is only 3 points. So the last 2 quizzes will be very, very exciting. Will Gerd win the six month competition again or will Fried be our new winner of the six-month-competion, sponsored by Hans Compter Rare Cars? This week's Tough to crack puzzle is, as we believe, a real tough one. The microcar only weighs 450 kg and top speed is 70 km/h (43 mph). We will leave the rest to you.

It just looks like a russian Microcar, so searched via Google and found this from Wikipedia:The SMZ cycle car was a Soviet microcar, manufactured in Serpukhov, Russia by Serpukhov Motor Works (Russian: Серпуховский Мотозавод, Serpukhovskiy Motozavod), now SeAZ. The most common models were the S-3A (S-Three-A) and S-3D (S-Three-D). They were specially designed for disabled drivers and were distributed in the USSR for free or at a large discounts through the Soviet Union's social welfare system, and were not officially sold to non-disabled people......

This is an Invalidka SMZ S-3D built by the Serpukhov Motor Works at the Serpukhovsky factory in the (then) USSR. It was powered by a 2-stroke IJ motorcycle engine and was designed for use by disabled drivers. It was never sold to private hands-local authorities isued them to qualifying users for fixed periods free of charge after which the cars would be returned and replaced.

Interesting fact: 2018 is the 70th anniversary of Porsche, XKs and Land Rovers but no-one has celebrated Bert Greeves' design of the prototype Invacar.

Okay, it's the SMZ S3D, built for disabled drivers by Serpukhov Motor Works, Russia, 1970-1997 (replacing the model S-3AM). It had a 346cc air-cooled two-stroke IZH-P3 rear engine, max 43mph. They were leased out free for 5 years and, when returned, the disabled driver was given a new one. [source: Wikipedia].
The USSR government commissioned the SM motorcycle works to build them for ex-army people who lost limbs in WWII. About quarter million SMZ S3D were produced. Now quite rare, as they were built to last only about the 5-year lease period, after which most were scrapped by the Government. [source: "Ushanka Show" on YouTube].

Hi,
it`s an russian mikrocar called SeAs, or better SeAz SZD. Originaly the factory was named Serpuchowski Motocikletny Sawod, but now the name is Serpuchowski Awtomobilny Sawod. The SZD was produced beetween 1971 and 1990. It had a IZH-3 air-cooled two-stroke engine, producing 17.5 hp with 346 cm³, what was located in the rear. Best regards, Till Jauernig

The "car" sold with discount or given for free to disabled people. Non-disabled people could not buy the car.
48 or 84 HP 2-stroke engine from IZ (IZH) Planeta. You reverse by reversing the engine, giving you same top speed in both directions: about 70 km/h.
All controls on steering wheels. Very noisy.
Unlike the predecessors, it has a heater.
Because most were green, it got the nickname: "The little toad".
At one occasion 11 people squeezed into one "Invalidka"

This is the SMZ S3D, built by the Serpukhovskiy Motozavod in Russia. 223,051 of these invalid carriages were built from 1970 to 1997. Like its predecessor S3A it was only available through the social care system and could be leased for up to 5 years. The Izh P3-01 rear engine was a 346 cc two-stroke single-cylinder of 18 hp. The cars design followed the lines of the stillborn ZAZ965-engined offroad prototype Shustrik by Eric Szabo and Eduard Molchanov. There was no direct successor to the S3D, as modified SeAZ Oka were used for invalid drivers then.

SMZ (Serpukofskii Motocikletnii Zavod) a loud and noisy Russian invalid car handed out for free to disabled war veterans, with a lease for five years. Two models were made for driving with two hands(SZA) and for drivers with one hand and one leg (SZB). The (SZD), was nicknamed “little Toad” because the first ones only came in green. This SMZ S-3D was made from 1970 till 1997 (from 1990 renamed as SeAZ) Mounted in the rear was a 346cc single 2 stroke IZH-P3-01 engine of 18hp, with 4 gears forward and with a switch you had 4 gears backwards too.

Uh-Oh my god! Russian micro car for invalides. A SMZ S3D IVALIDKA buildt from a russian motorcycle factory starting 1939 as CMB. They started with a 3 wheeler and by 1970 the car progressed to the car in question. It is acounted for as one of the most expensive cars in the world as it cost you a leg or a arm. The car was designed to last 5 years after that time the government took it and scrap it and you would get a new one. This is why they are quite rare. single cyl. motorcycle engine, 14hp only hand controls 4 speed forward and reverse!
Only invalides were entitled to receive one but beeing russia I wonder how many ended up in priviledged families for their kid´s?
